The best city for dental treatment in Turkey
The dentist matters more than the city. But the city decides how easy your two trips, your recovery and any follow-up visit will be.
No city is best for everyone. Istanbul has the most clinics and specialists but long airport transfers. Antalya has year-round UK flights, a short transfer and many clinics used to international patients. Izmir has a large university dental school. The Aegean resorts (Kuşadası, Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye) are pleasant but small, and flights are mostly seasonal. For implants or full-arch work, which need two trips months apart, pick a city you can reach easily in both summer and winter.
Start with the treatment, not the beach
A set of veneers or a few crowns can often be finished in one stay of about a week. Implants are different. Most implant plans need two trips: one to place the implants and a second, usually three to six months later, to fit the permanent teeth. If something needs adjusting, you may need a third. So the question is not "where would I like a holiday?" but "where can I get back to easily, in any month?"
The four places UK patients choose
| City | Nearest airport | Airport to clinics | UK flights | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Istanbul | Istanbul (IST) or Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) | Often 45 to 90 minutes | All year, many UK airports | The widest choice of specialists |
| Antalya | Antalya (AYT) | About 20 to 30 minutes to the centre | All year from several UK airports, more in summer | Two-trip implant treatment, recovery by the sea |
| Izmir | Izmir (ADB) | About 30 to 45 minutes | Fewer direct flights, mostly in summer | University-trained specialists |
| Aegean coast | Dalaman (DLM), Bodrum (BJV) or Izmir (ADB) | About 45 minutes to 1½ hours | Mostly April to October | One-trip treatment combined with a stay you already know |
Istanbul
Istanbul has more dental clinics than any other Turkish city, so if you need a particular specialist, such as an oral surgeon for a complicated jaw, you will find one. The trade-off is size: the main airport is a long way from the older districts, and moving between hotel and clinic can take an hour each way. Choose a hotel close to the clinic.

Antalya
Antalya is the city we know best, because our clinic is there. It is the one most UK patients choose for implant treatment, for practical reasons: flights from the UK run all year, the airport is close to the city, and many clinics are used to looking after patients who come back for a second trip. In winter it is quieter and hotels are cheaper, which suits the second visit.

Izmir
Izmir is Türkiye’s third-largest city and home to Ege University, whose Faculty of Dentistry trained several dentists in this guide. If you want a dentist with a doctorate or a university post, Izmir has a good share of them. Fewer UK flights run here than to Antalya or Istanbul, especially in winter.

Kuşadası, Bodrum, Marmaris and Fethiye
Many UK patients already know these towns from holidays, and that familiarity helps. But they are small. Each has only a handful of clinics registered to treat international patients, and direct flights from the UK are mostly seasonal. For a one-trip treatment in summer that may not matter; for implants it can make the second trip harder.

How to decide
- Choose the dentist first. Then check the city works for every trip your plan needs.
- Check winter flights from your nearest UK airport if your second trip may fall between November and March.
- Ask how far the hotel is from the clinic, and who drives you between them.
- Plan the days after surgery as rest days. Dentists usually advise no swimming, heavy exercise or alcohol for a few days after surgery.
Common questions
Is Istanbul or Antalya better for dental implants?
Both have experienced implant dentists. Antalya is usually simpler for UK patients doing two trips: flights run all year from several UK airports and the airport is close to the city. Istanbul offers more choice but bigger distances. Choose the dentist first, then check the travel works for both trips.
How many trips do dental implants in Turkey need?
Usually two. The implants are placed on the first trip, and the permanent teeth are fitted on a second trip a few months later, once the implants have joined the bone. Veneers and crowns can often be done in one trip of about a week.
Is it safe to have dental treatment in a Turkish holiday resort?
Safety depends on the dentist and clinic, not on the town. Check that the clinic is on the Ministry of Health’s HealthTürkiye register and that the dentist is named there. The NHS also suggests checking qualifications, insurance and aftercare before you go.
Can I combine dental treatment with a holiday?
You can, but plan around the treatment. After surgery, dentists usually advise a few quiet days without swimming, heavy exercise or alcohol, so put the sightseeing before treatment or on the later trip.
