How to check a Turkish dentist before you travel
Most guides tell you to check the clinic. This one is about the person holding the drill, and how to find them on the Ministry of Health’s own register.
Ask the clinic for the full name of the dentist who will treat you. Then search for that name on the Health Professionals section of HealthTürkiye, the Ministry of Health’s portal. A listed dentist’s page shows their title (dentist, specialist, doctor, associate professor or professor), their branch, the clinic they work at, and sometimes a CV. Check that the clinic on the record matches the clinic you are booking with.
Step 1: get a name, not a team photo
Clinic websites often show a smiling group of dentists. That does not tell you who will treat you. Ask, by email or WhatsApp, for the full name of the dentist who will do each part of your treatment: the surgery, the teeth, and any follow-up. Ask for it before you pay a deposit.
Step 2: search the Ministry’s register of health professionals
HealthTürkiye is the Turkish Ministry of Health’s portal for international patients. Besides its list of clinics, it has a Health Professionals section. Type the dentist’s surname. Turkish names have letters such as ş, ç, ğ, ı and ü; if you get no result, try the surname without them.
Step 3: read what the record says
- Title. The English version shows Dentist, M.D. Specialist (its word for uzman), Doctor, Associate Professor or Professor. See what each title means.
- Branch. "Oral and Dental Health" is the general branch. A named branch, such as Prosthodontics or Periodontology, usually means specialist work.
- Clinic. The facility the dentist works at, with its own register page and authorisation number.
- Experience and CV. Some records show years of experience, and some include an uploaded CV.
Step 4: make sure the clinic matches
Clinics often trade under a short brand name, while the register uses the legal Turkish name, such as "Özel … Ağız ve Diş Sağlığı Polikliniği". Open the clinic page linked from the dentist’s record and check the address matches. If the dentist is registered at a different clinic from the one you are booking, ask why.
Step 5: ask for the rest in writing
The register does not show everything. Ask the dentist or clinic to send:
- A short CV with the dental school and year of graduation.
- Any specialist training, with the university and the years.
- Their Turkish Dental Association (TDB) membership number.
- How often they do the treatment you need.
Our top pick, Dt. Hüseyin Yavuz Özbek, publishes his TDB number (49105) and his dental school on his profile, which is one of the reasons he is first in our ranking. Precious Dental publishes this guide.
What this check cannot tell you
A register entry shows that a dentist is allowed to work at an authorised clinic. It does not tell you whether your plan is right, how skilled the dentist is at your treatment or how the clinic handles problems. For that, see the NHS treatment abroad checklist and our ranking method.
Common questions
Can I check a Turkish dentist on the GDC register?
Normally not. The UK General Dental Council registers dentists who work in the UK. A dentist who works only in Türkiye is registered there instead, and that is normal.
What if the dentist is not on HealthTürkiye?
Not every dentist in Türkiye is listed there; the register covers health professionals at facilities authorised for international patients. If your dentist is missing, ask the clinic why, and ask for a CV and their Turkish Dental Association membership.
The clinic only gives me a coordinator’s name. What should I do?
Ask for the dentist’s name in writing before you pay a deposit. A clinic that will not tell you who will treat you is a clinic to avoid.
Is the experience figure on the register reliable?
It is the figure shown on the Ministry’s portal. Compare it with the graduation year on the clinic’s website; if the two disagree a lot, ask.
