Dentists in the Aegean resorts: Bodrum, Fethiye, Marmaris, Kuşadası
Treatment in a town you already know and love sounds ideal. Sometimes it is. Here are the trade-offs.
The Aegean resorts have some well-qualified dentists, including specialists in Fethiye and Bodrum. Their advantages are familiarity and a relaxing place to recover. The disadvantages are fewer clinics to choose from and direct UK flights mostly from April to October, which can make the second trip of implant treatment harder. For one-trip treatments in summer, they can work well.
Many UK patients first think of dental treatment in Türkiye while on holiday in Fethiye, Marmaris, Bodrum or Kuşadası. Booking treatment in a town you know, perhaps where you return every year, has real appeal. Here is how to think about it.
What the resorts offer
- Familiarity. You know the town, the hotels and how to get around.
- A good place to recover. Quiet days by the sea suit the days after treatment.
- Some well-qualified dentists. In our checks we found an associate professor of oral surgery and a PhD prosthodontist in Fethiye, and an oral surgeon with a doctorate in Bodrum. See our coast dentists.
What to watch for
- Fewer clinics. Each resort has only a handful of clinics registered to treat international patients, so you have less choice.
- Seasonal flights. Direct UK flights to Dalaman and Bodrum run mainly from spring to autumn. Kuşadası is usually reached via Izmir.
- Winter service. Some clinics in resort towns reduce hours or staff out of season. Ask.
- Treatment squeezed into a holiday. It is tempting to fit treatment around sunbathing and swimming. After surgery, you should not.
Which treatments suit a resort
One-trip treatments in summer, such as whitening, crowns, bonding or veneers, fit well, as long as you plan the dental days first. Two-trip implant treatment is possible too, but check that the clinic, the dentist and flights will all be available for your second trip, which may fall in winter.
The four towns at a glance
| Town | Usual airport | Typical road transfer |
|---|---|---|
| Fethiye | Dalaman (DLM) | About 45 minutes to an hour |
| Marmaris | Dalaman (DLM) | About 1½ hours |
| Bodrum | Milas–Bodrum (BJV) | About 30 to 45 minutes |
| Kuşadası | Izmir (ADB) | About an hour or so |
Check the dentist, not the view
A clinic with a sea view and a friendly team is pleasant. It tells you nothing about the dentist. Use the same checks as anywhere: look them up on the register, ask for their training and a written plan.
A realistic timetable for treatment on holiday
If you want to combine treatment with a stay in a resort, put the dental days at the start and the holiday at the end, not the other way round. A typical one-trip plan for crowns or veneers looks something like this:
- Day 1: examination, X-rays or scan, discussion of the plan, photographs.
- Day 2: preparation of teeth, temporary teeth fitted.
- Days 3 to 5: the laboratory makes the final teeth; you may have a try-in appointment.
- Day 6 or 7: final fit and bite check.
- A spare day for adjustments before you fly.
Only once the final teeth are fitted and you are comfortable should the holiday part begin. For surgery, the order matters even more: the days after implant placement are for rest, soft food and no swimming.
How small towns change the conversation
In a resort with only a few international clinics, competition works differently from Istanbul or Antalya. On the plus side, a small clinic may know its regular UK visitors well and offer continuity over many years. On the other hand, there may be only one dentist who does the treatment you need. If that dentist is away when you return, there may be no one else. Ask how many dentists at the clinic could take over your care, and look each of them up.
Combining the coast with a city clinic
Some patients stay in a resort they love and travel for treatment. Antalya, for example, is a few hours by road from Fethiye and a short flight from Istanbul or Izmir. That adds a journey but widens your choice. If you do this, stay near the clinic on the days of treatment and the day after surgery; a long drive with a numb mouth and fresh stitches is not pleasant.
What to ask a resort clinic
- Which months are you fully open, and which dentists work in winter?
- Where is your dental laboratory: in the clinic, in town, or in another city?
- If I need a specialist you do not have, who do you refer to?
- How do you handle problems for patients who live abroad?

Insurance and health cover
GOV.UK’s Turkey health advice says the EHIC and GHIC are not valid in Türkiye, so travel insurance is important. If your holiday policy is an annual one, check whether it covers planned treatment and any complications. Many do not.
Three common situations, and how to think about them
“We go to Fethiye every summer and want veneers there”
This can work well. Veneers are usually one trip, and you already know the town. Book the dental days at the start of your stay, ask for a mock-up before preparation, and keep the beach for after the final fit. Check that the clinic’s laboratory can make the veneers within your stay; ask whether it is in the clinic or elsewhere. Before you go, check the dentist on HealthTürkiye and ask for a written guarantee that says what happens if a veneer chips after you are home.
“I want implants in Bodrum, starting in July”
A July first trip often puts the second between October and January. Direct UK flights to Bodrum are mostly seasonal, so check what would be available for your return, and ask the clinic which of its dentists work in winter. If the answers are uncertain, consider starting earlier in the year, or choosing a dentist in a city with year-round flights.
“I live part of the year in Kuşadası”
If you spend months in Türkiye, the seasonal problem largely disappears, and treatment that needs several visits becomes easier. Make sure you also have a UK dentist for the months you are at home, and keep copies of your records in both places.
What a resort clinic should tell you in writing
- The full names of the dentists who will treat you, and their register titles.
- The clinic’s opening months and winter hours.
- Where the laboratory is, and how long the work takes.
- What is included in the price, including any hotel or transfer.
- How you contact the clinic after you go home, and how quickly they reply.
Our city guide sets the resorts alongside Istanbul, Izmir and Antalya if you want to compare.
Your next steps
- Decide whether your treatment is one trip or two.
- Check the clinic’s opening months and flights for both trips.
- Look up the dentist on HealthTürkiye.
Handled this way, treatment in a resort you love can be a very good experience.
Then ask for the plan in writing.
Our view
Precious Dental, which publishes this guide, is in Antalya, which has UK flights all year; our top pick, Dt. Hüseyin Yavuz Özbek, works there. If you are set on a resort, look at the dentists we checked on the coast page.
Common questions
Which airport serves Fethiye and Marmaris?
Dalaman (DLM) is the usual airport for both; Bodrum has its own airport (BJV).
Do resort clinics close in winter?
Some reduce hours or staff out of season. Ask the clinic about its winter opening before booking a two-trip treatment.
Are resort dentists as good as city dentists?
Some are very well qualified. Check the individual dentist, as you would anywhere.
Can I have veneers on holiday?
Many people do, but plan the treatment days first and the holiday around them.
